For further information on what’s happening in the world of dentistry, patients may wish to refer to the following useful and highly informative sources:
Dental Fear Central is an excellent web based resource run by volunteers, aimed at supporting patients who are terrified of dentists, and also providing advice and tips for dentists in their treatment and management of anxious patients:-
The British Dental Association is the main professional association for dentists in the UK, with a membership of in excess of 18,000 members, the majority of the profession. We have ensured that patients will find numerous useful links to a number of dental websites throughout this site. We have tried to create links to sites which are independent, informative and educational, and with which we are familiar. We believe that it is extremely important that patients get access to accurate, independent information, which is important in helping patients to make the correct treatment choices.
Whether you are a patient terrified at the prospect of dental treatment, or a patient simply looking for information on a particular topic, you should find the sites discussed below to be highly informative.
For the highly anxious patient:-
If you are anxious, worried, scared or terrified, remember you are not alone. We would highly recommend that these patients look at an online resource called Dental Fear Central.
Dental Fear Central is a UK based resource run by a group of volunteers who have either been dental phobics or dentally anxious themselves, and by dental professionals with an interest in the management of dental anxiety/phobia. The site offers information on many different aspects of dental anxiety, what patients can do about it, and gives access to a support forum for patients.
General Dentistry Information
For patients looking for information on a variety of topics/treatments, we would highly recommend the British Dental Health Foundation site, where a Tell-me about section should answer most of the questions a patient may have. If you cannot find the information you are looking for here, we can also recommend the British Dental Association Smile site, another great source of information.
Whatever information you may be after – gum disease, tooth coloured fillings, crowns, veneers, visiting the hygienist, preventive advice, toothpastes, sugar and diet – you should be able to find it on these sites.
Alternatively, we are more than happy to respond to any enquiries from patients. Please e-mail us at reception@nofeardentists.com, or phone us on 01225 334733.
